Angel Reese visits Crossroads School Female Student Athletes as they finish 6-Week STEM Program

This month, Living Classrooms Crossroads Middle School finished a 6-week STEM program, HER Lab, in collaboration with the Angel Reese Foundation, Project Scientist, and 2K Games. HER Lab is a program empowering young women to explore career fields where women are underrepresented by making STEM activities fun and relatable. Our Crossroads students participated in a new STEM activity every week learning about coding, robotics design, STEM-based sports activities, 3D printing, and career exploration.

On April 10th, the program culminated in a high-energy STEM and basketball–themed event celebrating our students hard work during the program. Through a series of interactive challenges, students measured the bounce of a basketball, tested their vertical jump, designed innovative basketball shoes, and measured their reaction times. Our girls were engaged and demonstrated their new skills and knowledge.

At the end of the event, Angel Reese surprised our students, joining them to talk about her journey and why STEM is so important to her. She emphasized the need for Black women in STEM fields and the importance of representation as women still only make up about 35% of STEM jobs in the United States. Angel is a role model for our students, inspiring them as she spoke about how to rebuild confidence, when to decide to follow a certain path in life, and the projects she is currently working on. She reminded our students to dream big and always believe in themselves and their intelligence!

Thank you to Angel, Ronnie and 2K Games, and Project Scientist for partnering with Crossroads and helping create an unforgettable culmination to HER Lab!
