Park House and Athletic field

Living Classrooms Foundation’s Park House Community Center, located within Patterson Park, one of Baltimore’s best urban parks, includes a multi-purpose turf field, educational building, and a community garden. The Park House offers youth and families a safe place to learn, participate in fitness classes, and play sports, with health and wellness programs led by Living Classrooms’ athletic and education staff.  The center is host to free community fitness classes, local school field days, community-wide field days, sports team practices/games, and other community meetings and events.

After-school and summer programming at the Park House serves middle school youth from the Patterson Park/Highlandtown neighborhoods with physical fitness and nutrition education, mindfulness programming, cultural and academic enrichment, athletic teams, and character education.  Students receive at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day, eat a healthy meal and receive homework help.  A consistent partnership with local schools and organizations connects volunteers to our programming to lead poetry, arts and crafts, gardening, and physical and social-emotional health activities for students to have fun and use Patterson Park as a “living classroom.”

Living Classrooms led a major effort to significantly upgrade a neglected playing field at the 3.2 acre City Springs Park at 1600 East Baltimore Street. The project received major funding from Recreation and Parks and the National Football League. The park currently includes a swimming pool, a football field, and a community garden. The field is open for use by Baltimore City schools during school hours and out of school hours, and for use by local sports leagues.
