Inspired to Serve

About

Inspired to Serve is a service learning and civic engagement program operated by Living Classrooms, in partnership with the Karma for Cara Foundation. Inspired to Serve uses hands-on volunteer and internship opportunities at Living Classrooms’ sites in Baltimore and Washington, DC to teach students about leadership, community solutions, and social change.

By combining meaningful service experiences with additional programming that provokes students to consider the purpose and power of service, Inspired to Serve seeks to foster the next generation of leaders. The program welcomes student volunteers of all levels and backgrounds.

Individuals, schools, universities, and student groups are welcome to inquire about partnering and volunteering with Inspired to Serve.

  • Schools, universities, student groups, and individual students are invited to contact us about opportunities to get involved with service at Living Classrooms.

  • The Inspired to Serve Summer Internship is an 8-week program that places students in a service role with Living Classrooms’ programs in Baltimore. Participants gain a deeper understanding of the community they serve, develop important mentorship connections, and complete a project designed to help them think critically about community leadership. The program admits college students and rising high school seniors.

  • Inspired to Serve partners with schools and universities both in Baltimore and across the country to provide service opportunities for students looking to make the most of their spring, summer, fall, or winter break.

Karma for Cara Foundation

Inspired to Serve is operated in partnership with the Karma for Cara Foundation. Created to honor the legacy and generous spirit of life-long volunteer Cara Becker, Karma for Cara celebrates the power of young people by promoting youth leadership and involvement in community service. The Karma for Cara Youth Microgrant Program helps students across the country turn their ideas into action by providing grants up to $1,000 to support youth-led community projects. The Microgrant Program is currently on pause for planning purposes. An update will be provided as soon as possible.
