On Friday, June 20th, Living Classrooms partnered with Root Cause, Andretti Sports Marketing, and Volkswagen to bring students out to the Red Bull Global Rally Cross in DC. Students from Eliot-Hine Middle participating in Living Classrooms’ ESTEM program were split into four teams where they designed and built their own mini derby cars and raced them on a 65 foot indoor track. Each team was joined by professional drivers from the Redbull Global Rally Cross for one final race to determine the overall winner. Then, students were taken down to the paddock to examine the cars, talk to the drivers and engineers and discover all of the hark work and dedication that goes into driving a race car. During this time, students practiced their math and physics, and talked with the drivers about racing, staying in school and the importance of getting a good education. Students were also given passes for themselves and a family member to see the actual Rally Cross races for free over the weekend.
