Apply to be a Summer Intern!

Inspired to Serve is a Living Classrooms program that uses volunteerism and community service to help students learn about leadership, community change, and civic engagement. Each summer, the Inspired to Serve Summer Internship Program matches 10 motivated students with a summer-long placement with one of Living Classrooms’ programs in Baltimore. As an intern, your placement and job description are determined by your individual skills, talents, and goals.

  • Graduate Students

Interns are provided a $1,000 stipend for participation in the program and must be eligible to work in the United States.

Anticipating in-person work in summer 2022, applicants must be located in or near Baltimore, MD. Transportation and housing are not provided in this program.

Interns are subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment drug testing.

Program Schedule

The 2022 Internship Program will take place from June 21st, 2022 – August 19th, 2022. Interns are expected to serve 200 hours over this 10-week program. Roughly 16 hours per week. Schedules will vary by site and placement.

Interview and Placement Process

Interns are placed at various Living Classrooms program sites across Baltimore, Maryland. Each site serves different populations and has different intern roles. Inspired to Serve strives to match interns with placements that best fit their interests, talents, experience, and career goals.

After applying, competitive applicants will be invited to interview. Finalists from the interviews will be connected with a Living Classrooms program for possible placement. Interns will have the opportunity to accept or decline after they have been offered a placement.

The Legacy Project

The capstone of the Inspired to Serve Summer Internship Program is the Legacy Project. Each intern will work on an ongoing project at their site that will make a positive impact on the staff, volunteers, students, or guests at that site. Details of the Legacy Project are provided at intern orientation.
