Commodore John Rodgers Students Finish Successful Lacrosse Season

Living Classrooms' Commodore John Rodgers Middle School boys lacrosse team completed their season this year with four wins and five losses. The team finished the season with a 4-3 overtime win against Booker T. Washington Middle School, a team they lost 6-1 against in the first game of the season. More importantly, the team sport provided an engaging, positive afterschool activity for 30 of our young student-athletes five times a week for over two months this spring. Data shows classroom behavior, attendance rates, and academic performance for players improved throughout the season. Coaches instilled a new love for lacrosse in a core group of 6th and 7th graders. Don't be surprised if you see Commodore John Rodgers students playing catch or wall-ball in the alleys and side-streets of the Orleans and Fayette Street corridors! As we move into next year, we hope to expand the program to serve more students, including girls. Living Classrooms is now collecting donations of all types of lacrosse equipment for boys and girls ages 9-14. We hope to continue in our current Parks and People Foundation Lacrosse League, and explore options for a travel team to expose the students to a higher level of competition.
