Congressman John Lewis Speaks to Students

On May 19, Congressman John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, co-authors of the #1 New York Times best selling graphic memoir trilogy, MARCH visited the Frederick Douglas Isaac Meyers Maritime Park and addressed 310 students about the Civil Rights Movement and their graphic novel. Presented by Living Classrooms Foundation and Turning the Corner Achievement Program and thanks to Eddie and Sylvia Brown and Sharon Lewis, students from The Crossroads School, Commodore John Rodgers Elementary & Middle School, and Hampstead Hill heard from Congressman John Lewis and Andrew Aydin and were able to participate in a Question and Answer session and have their copies of MARCH signed by the authors. Students presented the Congressman and Andrew Aydin with ‘Leaders Go Places’ jackets. Often called “one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced,” John Lewis has dedicated his life to protecting human rights, securing civil liberties, and building what he calls “The Beloved Community in America. An Atlanta native, Andrew Aydin currently serves as an aide to Rep. John Lewis handling Telecom and Technology policy as well as New Media in Washington, D.C
